Whilst 1.0 was a buggy release, it's grown to be very solid now, with support for auto setting away on exit (so people think you're away, not off-line, when app isn't running) audio and picture message support etc. More importantly, it's solid.

Currently the best instant messenger IMO as of 28th Sep 2008

many of the problems you identified in the review have been fixed in the previous 3 updates. Yesterday we submitted a new build to Apple which will include the following:

-see how many unread messages you have, and receive email notifications

    - Additional languages: Spanish, Traditional Chinese, German, Japanese (this is in addition to the French, Russian and Polish versions that have already been distributed)

    - In this version we’ve also improved usability, and fixed some bugs that we (and other people) found.

We continue to make this the best IM service--and don't forget you can use Palringo to send photos and voice IM messages--especially since there is no MMS on the iPhone.

And, we hope to have a few pre-Xmas surprises available within the next few weeks.

    regards

meebo.com has an iPhone version that runs in the Safari browser and works great. It's been available since iPhone 1.0.

I found it very good IM for Windows mobile. I am running it on my HTC HD.

I hope they get the notification option turned on soon for the iPhone.
