Check out that. You have to use manual management but it lets you copy music to your iDevice from multiple machines without wiping.
(Still works in iTunes 9.1 according to my testing - your milage may vary)

This is great. I had no idea it would work this way, and it's actually the best way to have it work for me. I don't have 80GB on my laptop to store all my music & vids, but I do want to sync my Apps and Podcasts from the laptop.
